Rebuplic vs. Democracy

To what I understand about the difference of the Republic kind of government from democracy during the first meeting, a person is chosen as a leader because he possesses the trait that the citizens think what a leader should have. These two types of government have differences in its voting procedure but how does their governing differ from one another? To the Greeks who were democratic and to the Romans who were Republics, which one do you think had a better government?

  1. the Romans got their ideas mostly from the Greeks, even the type of government (democracy) was only adopted by the Romans but they did not completely copied its infrastructure . Although they had many similarities, Romans were still much more strict and violent in the way they ruled, for example would be the Laws of the Twelve tables; there is one which says, "If any person has sung or composed against another person a song such as was causing slander or insult to another, he shall be clubbed to death."

for the second question, I believe both failed to establish justification in which their government stands for. But looking at their economy and the effects of their governance, i would say the Romans were better.

Check your grammar before sending your entry.

You can only compare two things that have some similarity. Greek democracy and Roman republic are non-comparable.

This phrase shows you did not understand what I said in the first lecture: "a person is chosen as a leader because he possesses the trait that the citizens think what a leader should have." Athenians were not concerned about choosing a leader or the traits that make a good leader. They were distrustful of leaders. Talk to me or, better still, raise this point in class if you need further explanation.

Edit your entry before sending. Check grammatical errors and logical flows. For example, "... they did not completely copied its infrastructure." Baloktot ang grammar.

Roman republic was not at all a "copy" of the Greek model. In what way was it uniquely Roman?
